The Roots of Brokenness

Any conversation about what HopeNet does would be incomplete without discussing what we mean by a root of brokenness. Here’s a brief introduction.

Imagine you went to the doctor week after week with a recurring fever, and all he/she did was give you a name for your problem and prescribe more of the same medication. After a few weeks, you would demand better answers and/or find new doctor.  No, we expect medical doctors to look past our symptoms and find the cause of our illness.

Now imagine a single mom who keeps choosing boyfriends who abuse her – or a healthy young man who loses job after job – or an addict who’s been through multiple recovery attempts.  They too, desperately need someone who will dig past the symptoms and find the cause of their dysfunction. What we call the root of brokenness.

Yet in order to be paid, the typical therapist is required to name the problem based on the symptoms displayed in the first session and then treat you on the basis of that diagnosis.

Even further, regardless of whether or not you have completed your healing, that diagnosis often limits the number of sessions they can provide.

Unless a therapist identifies AND brings healing to the hidden root, a lasting healing is unlikely to occur. Finding and effectively addressing that hidden root seldom occurs within a prescribed number of depression treatment sessions.

At HopeNet, we are committed to standing with those who seek our help as long as it takes to bring healing to their root of brokenness. Thanks to those who support us with their gifts and prayers, we are able to keep that commitment with every person who seeks our help.
